EASILY TAKES IN TRADES- - PEOPLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. James Herbert Evans was charged at the Police Court this morning with a series of impudent frauds. According to the statement of the police, he represented himself, as a brother of a well-known Government officer, and obtained a blank cheque from a bank official, filled in the cheque from a certain sum, and with this and five guineas cash opened a bank account, on which he drew to the extent of .£260, victimising a number of local tradesmen by purchasing articles in exchange for cheques. He pleaded guilty, and was remanded for sentence until to-morrow.
