AUCKLAND SPECIAL.

HON. J. CARROLL,

(By Telegraph—Brers Association.) A\ Aland, last night. The Hon. Jamc Carroll, accompanied by the Gisboruo .laori Chiefs, returned from - Rotorua this evening. They all contemplate attending the Avondale races to-morrow. AVONDALE RACES. Cavaliero is struck out of the Avondale Steeplechase, and Canuongate was withdrawn yesterday. Ivan, Sst 121 b, was omitted from the acceptances for the Maidon Handicap. Cavaliero and Cannongate are evidently holding back for the Grand National Steeplechase, run at Auckland next June. The Gisborne pony has many admirers for the maiden ovont at Avondale to-morrow. Ivan, who is only a pony, may run well, but I do not expect to see him beating the cattle he meets to-morrow. TRAINING TRACK—HOHORA BOLTS. No startling gallops woro recorded at Ellerslie this morning. Hohora traversed a circuit more than his trainer intended him to do. His rider explained that he found it impossible to quite restrain him with the reins that had been well oiled, and when he got him to a restricted part ho jumped off. No harm resulted from this acrobatic foat. Methinks Hohora is feeling very well. TIPS FOR THE RACES. The following have chances for tomorrow’s races :—Maiden Plate : Balbirnie or Swiftfoot. Hurdles : Fortyseven. Handicap : Formula or Firefly. Pony : Blue Paul or Lady Avon. Two-year-old : Ragabrash or Hesper. Hack ■ Handicap : Wollstock. Railway: St. 1 Olga or Hastings.
