THE ROYAL VISIT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. The acting-Mayor, with Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, waited upon tho Governor this morning with respect to tho Royal visit. Tho question of tho route of the procession was discussed, and the present arrangements for housing tho party during their stay in Christchurch may bo altered. NO TIME. Mr T. S. Weston, Chairman of tho Board of Governors of Canterbury College, and Chairman of the Board of Education, has received a lettor from tho Governor that timo will not admit of tho Duke and Duchess of Cornwall visiting Hie Collego or State school during their stay in Christchurch. SUDDEN DEATH. Mrs Sophia Burch, a widow, aged about 77, dropped dead in a pew at the Lyttelton Wesleyan Church during tho service last evening. Heart disease was tho cause of death.

DEATH OF AN.OLD SETTLER. Mr J. Waokerlc, who came to Akaroa with the French sottlcrp in 1840, diod on Friday, aged 85. COST OF THE ROYAL VISIT.

Tho Executive Committee in connection with tho Royal visit suggested that the cost should bo borne as follows:—City Council, nine-eighteenths, £1350 ; Sydenham, Linwood, and St. Albans Borough Councils, two-cighci enths, £3OO each ; Ileathcole, Iticcarton, and Avon ltoad Boards, one-eighteenth, £l5O, and that tho other local bodies' in north Canterbury should be asked to contribute. Tho City Council and Sydenham Borough Councils to-night agreed to tho proportions allotted them. Linwood adopted it with a reservation that it would not pay more than £BOO. V THE FEDERAL CONTINGENT. Tho members of the New Zealand contingent for the opening of tho FederalParliament are arriving daily, and it is expected that they will all be in Christchurch by the end of this week. Tho moil arc to bo drilled bore for a timo befom leaving for Melbourne. Major M. L,. &■.. Smith is expected to arrive to-morrow s to take charge of the camp. Lieutenant Davis is also coining down to assist in instructing the men. The contingent will f bo armed with -303 rifles.
