With regard to contracts, counsel for the Crown said that he was agreeable, except as to English contracts, to accept as a test a return of contracts which were let by public tender, as ho supposed lie ought to call evidence to show what would be tho ordinary rate allowed for super-' vision. The Chairman said .ire thought the returns before the Commission showed that some English contractors were paid for work which was done by other persons, or not done at all. ~Mr Young said the matter would be satisfactorily explained. The Commission adjourned till Monday morning. __________
