By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Wellington volunteers returned last night from the Wairarapa, after four days’ field operations in marching, defence and attack, and cross-country work. The expedition is voted to be much preferable to a fixed camp. Pahiatua, last night. An aged man, an old resident, suicided yesterday afternoon. He cut his throat with a razor. He had been depressed in spirits for some time, and being examined by doctors as to his sanity, they disagreed. Dunedin, last night. During the week ended to-day returns have been* reported from 30 dredges, the total yield being 111332 19s 4d, or an average of 370 z per dredge. The Hartley and Riley return is not made known officially through the holidays, but is said to be lOOoz.
At the Earnscleugh Flat, near Alexandra, two men, while sluicing, unearthed the thigh bones and pelvis of a man, supposed to have been buried for thirty years.

At the Metropolitan Hotel last evening, Frod. Weiss met a local billiardist, Lovelock, in a match of 750 points, conceding 475. Weiss won. Lovelock’s score was 643. The best break was 104.
