RIFLE SHOOTING.

EAST COAST MOUNTED RIFLES,

There was beautiful weather yesterday for the competition for the Easter trophy (a gold medal) and the cash prizes donated by Sergeant Tombleson. Some good individual shooting was done, but, on the whole, the work was hardly up to form. Trooper Reynolds was the "winner of the medal and the first cash prize of £l. At the first range, 200 yards, he scored one within the possible, and he also topped the score at the 400 yards range. Corporal Morrison likewise proved consistent at the two first ranges, and won the second cash prize. The cash prizes were allotted upon sealed handicaps, on the scoring at the first two ranges.. The ten highest scorers without handicap then retired to the 600 yards to decide as to the winner of the medal. This stiff range puzzled all the marksmen except Trooper Hamilton, who found the inner with the first three shots, but nobody succeeded in hitting the bull’s-eye. Captain AVinter had charge of the firing lino, and Mr Redward, assisted by Sergeant Allen, acted as markers, tho marking being very satisfactorily done. Appended are the results: — CASH PRIZES. Csh.
