AUTUMN MEETING. (Special to Trans.) Auckland, last night. The Autumn Meeting of the Auckland Pacing Club was commenced at Ellorslio to-day. It rained steadily last night, and, consequently, the ground was very heavy to-day. In the big race of the day, the Easter Handicap, Seahorse, with Joe Scents on his back, and Okoari, who were on the inside, dashed into the load when tho starter raised the barrier, and Okoari taking charge as they settled into their stride, she was showing tho way by lialf-a-longth from Firefly in the run up to tho seven-furlong post, whore Bosella was in this place with .Record Beign and Seahorse following in the order named. Drawing out across the back, Okoari had placed a gap of four lengths between hcrsolf and Firefly. When they swept past the six-furlong, Rosclla could be seen moving up to Firefly, and at tho

distance further on Rosolla was up side by side with Firefly, with St. Ursula half a length away next, Record Reign, Ilolioro, and Seahorse being well

up in the order named. Okoari still held a commanding load going through the cutting, but as the field made tlieir way down to the four-furlong post Rosella headed Firefly, and had decreased the gap that separated her from the leader at this point to a couple of lengths. She maintained her lead to the distance, where Rosella and Ilolioro closed on her, and tho first-named, responding handsomely to the demand made on her, was in front below tho Derby Stand, where tlio whip was drawn on Okoari. Holding her own in tho run to the post, Rosolla won by a length from Ilolioro, Firefly being well up in third place, with The Needle and Okoari right up togothor, St. Ursula next, Record Reign last. Time, 1.424;

liv., ,C 7 18s. Air Jim Buchanan, of Gisborne, and iero of the Ellorslic Races to-day, was

greatly cheered after proving victorious in the big race to-day oil Rosolla. Truly, indeed, Buchanan rodo a brilliant race, a face that tlio young Gisbornoito might feel proud of. Ho was the most success-

ful rider of the meeting. The Onslow Stakes foil to Buchanan’s lot onHikipenc, and returned £9 11s div. Rosella and

Ilohoro, the winner ancl second horse in tho Easter Handicap at the Ellcrslie Knees to-day, wore both tipped in that order and telegraphed from Auckland to the Gisborne Times. Rosolla, winner of tho big race to-day, and Tim, who was 01

beaten by inches in the Hurdle Race, were forwarded to the Gisborne Times from Auckland as a good double. When the nominations were announced three

weeks ago, DO to 1 was the betting on this double. Formula, winner of the Railway Handicap, and Nonette, winner of the Champagno Stakes, wore also tipped for the Gisborne Times. An urgent telegram was despatched to Gisborne this morning, stating that Nonette was the best of good things. In the Pony llace to-day, the favorite Orange and Blue was loft at the post. Mr Charles Clark’s Gisborne pony was unsuccessful in passing the standard height this morning ; consequently the Gisborne pony did not start, much to the disappointment of the public.
