NAPIER NEWS
DEATH OF IDENTITY,
Napier, last night. An old Hawke’s Bay identity, in the person of Mr James Lyon, died at the Napier hospital on Saturday afternoon. Mr Lyon was a brother of Mr H. M. Ly'on, until recently secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, and' came to this province in the sixties. For many years he managed his father’s run at Kereru, and afterwards became associated with Mr C. B. Hoadly in his land and estate agency and auctioneering business, subsequently taking up the Bakaututu property, a part of'the old Patoka block. He was for some years starter to the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club, and for many years treasurer of that institution. STRANGE FATALITY. A man, named W. Taylor, storeman in the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s store at the Spit, had been missing since Thursday last, and a search was made with the result that the body was found in the water at the Iron Pot, under the steam launch Prusty. The body was considerably knocked about, but no information is yet to hand as to how it came to be in the water. Taylor leaves a wife and three children.
