. AUCKLAND SETTING A GOOD EXAMPLE. i (By Telegraph —Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The Finance Committee in connection with the Royal reception to-day allocated £SOO for two arches, one at the foot of Wcllesley-street and one near Government House. The Harbor Board and Government will each erect an arch, making four altogether. The Committee allocated £I7OO for covering the arches, street decorations, illumination of arches, bunting, carriages, printing and secretarial expenses, and fireworks. It was considered necessary to get £IOOO by private subscription, and tho city was mapped out into districts for collection. The Committee resolved that the presentation of medals to the school children being a colonial and not a civic matter, the cost should be borne by the Government, LOYAL DUNEDIN [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. A large and representative public meeting, convened by the Mayor, was held in the Town Hall,'to make preliminary arrangements in connection with the approaching visit of the Yorks. Before the meeting closed, Mr John Holmes, Government Executive Commissioner, who arrived by the express train, put in an appearance and spoke. Tho meeting was enthusiastic and unanimous, except as to details. Tho Hon. G. McLoau, in the course of some remarks, said that this was a ease in which they should be prepared to expend freely. The question of funds should never have been raised, and would not had the Premier been approached in a more considerate manner. The members of both Houses would willingly assist in passing au Indemnity Bill. The motion was carried to give Royal visitors ; a welcome worthy of such a groat occasion. An Executive Connnitcc, repre" sentalive of Otago and Southland, was 1 appointed, and also seven sub-committee.
