Per Press Association —Copyright. Wanganui, March 27. Shooting began at 7 o’clock this morning. The weather was good, but the wind tricky. Only fourteen tired in the match for returned South Africanders, 500 and 600 yards, ten. shots, the prize-list being: Somerville, First Contingent, 47, SI; Young, First Contingent, 46, 80; Garland, Second Contingent, £5, 72; McDonald, First Contingent, 44, 70 ; Wright, Second Contingent, £3, 66 : Parkes, First Contingent, 42, 66; Naylor, Second Contingent, £2, 464 ; Morrison, First Contingent, £2, 51 ; Douglas, First Contingent, 42, 42 ; Peebles, First Contingent, £l, 41; Crawley, First Contingent, 41, 37. Nearly 100 men shot in the Tyro Match, which is open to non-prizetakers at previous meetings, there being ten shots ut 500yds. The chief prize-takers were Collinge, Woodville, £3, 50; Oakley, Nelson, £5, 49; Hewlett, Christchurch, £4, 49 ; Trent, Christchurch, 43, 48 ; Kreschman, Auckland, £2, 48. • In the Wanganui match some good shooting was made, and King got oil an excellent score of 100 and shot up level with the leader for the belt. Following were the chief prize-takers in the Wanganui match, 300, 500, and 700 yards, seven shots : King, Oamaru, AlO, 100 ; Pearson, Timavu, .£3, 97 ; Papp, Stoke, £6, 96 ; T. Fraser, Kaitangata, 45, 94 ; Lacey, Wellington, £4, 93 ; Cox, Auckland, .£4, 93 ; Sergeant Okey, Taranaki, £4, 93 ; G. Anderson, Kaitangata, £4, 92 ; Holland, Wellington, 43, 92 ; Winslade, Wanganui, £3, 92 ; Harding, Blenheim, £3, 92 ; W. Loveday, Woodville, £3, 92 ; Humphreys, Hastings, A 3, 92 ; Turnbull, Gore, A 3, 92.

The following are the highest of the hundred who fire in the aggregate match, which is next to the last match for the belt : Wilson, Woodville, 444 ; King, Oamaru, 444 ; W. Loveday, Woodville, 442 ; Nelson, Woodville, 440 ; Humphreys, Napier, ,438 ;. G. Lovcday, Woodville, 436 ; A. Ballinger, Wellington, 435 ; Webster, Auckland, 432 ; Dorrigan, Gore, 431 ; Balfour, Napier, 429 ; Turnbull, Gore, 428 ; Purnell, Wanganui, 428 ; W. Ballinger, Wellington, 426 ; Oakley, Nelson, 425. Pearson, Tirnaru, wins the Union Company’s Cup ; King, Oamaru, takes the Native Association’s Cup, and wins Williams’ revolver and the Thames rifle. Woodville wins the Champion Teams’ Match with the fine score of 2173, Petone 2090, and Karori 2073. The shooting began at 7 this morning and continued until 6 o’clock to-night. The Tyro Match and that sot aside for returned contingenters were shot first. Collinge, of Woodville, won the chief prize in the former, having, with the assistance of one point handicap, made the possible. In the South African match only thirteen shot, and eleven of these touched money, Trooper Sommerville, another representative from that hot

shooting district, Woodville, being on top. The Wanganui Match was next to finish, and here King, the present champion, maintained his reputation as a brilliant shot, making within five of the possible at difficult ranges. This placed him right alongside the leader for the belt, and he was most heartily congratulated. The men were then given a spell until the 100 highest aggregates selocted to fire for the belt had been got out. Then the Auckland match (which takes place after the odd Grand Aggregate match) and the last try were fired simultaneously. In the last-mentioned, from which those who have won 48 at a meeting are excluded, Parkinson, of Marton, won with the possible of 50, and takes £7; Scott, Wanganui, £5, 49, being second; Moss, Dunedin, £5, 48, third; Drew, Wanganui, £4, 48, fourth.

In the Auckland match, Wakelin, the ex-champion, of Christchurch, and Hawthorne, of Wellington, with 96, tied, but on the range totals the former is first, and takes AB, as against 46 by the Wellington representative. The other chief prize-takers were; —

At the finish of the day’s shooting, the following .were the leading aggregates, and they are now the only shots to be fired to decide the championship : Wilson, Woodville ... 532 King, Oamaru 530 W.
