FIRE IN SHIP. ~ [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. The fire in the hold of the Stratbgryffe broke out again yesterday in a slight degree, but was soon extinguished, and the work of breaking out the cargo was continued. This forenoon the work in the after hatch had to be temporarily suspended, the fumes from the burning wool being so pungent that the stevedores could not work. 1 Three of them were so prostrated that they had to be hoisted on deck in baskets. "Wind sails were rigged up, and after dinner work was resumed. A GOOD WASH-UP.
The Central Electric dredge has washed up for 550 z 14dwt. RAILWAY BOARD. The Railway Appeal Board met to-day to hear the appeal of John McDowell (driver), and C. McDonald (fireman) against dismissal in connection with the collision at Port Chalmers in February. It is contended by the appellants that the signal was not at danger when the train entered the tunnel. The decision will be forwarded to Wellington.
