AUCKLAND SPECIAL.

WELLINGTON’S THRIFT.

(Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. The latest suggestion from Wellington for assisting the fund to defray the cost of the welcome of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall is a novel one. It is that tho City Council should invite the owners of property, along the proposed line of march of the procession to hand over to the Council’s control tho windows and balconies commanding a view of tho route, with a view to renting them to spectators on the occasion. MINISTERIAL PORTFJLIOS. It is rumoured in political circles that a re-distribution of Ministerial portfolios will take place before Parliament meets. The probabilities point to the Premier relinquishing the portfolio of tho Treasury in favour of tho Hon. J. G. Ward, who would be relieved of one or two of tho minor portfolios which he now holds. I understand that some important Ministerial announcements will bo made shortly. RACE CARDS.

News comes from Paeroa of a reprehensible business in connection with the races cards at tho recent Ohincmuri meeting. The right to tho cards was purchased by tho Waihi Daily Tolegraph for .£OO, which was .£2O more than was ever previously paid, and which left the buyers very little margin for profit. On the morning of the races a misleading card was issuod from a Paeroa printing oflico, and was sold for 6d. Naturally there was great indignation amongst tho Paeroa people at this action. A claim has been laid by the Waihi Tolegraph and Oliinomuri Racing Club against the Paeroa printers.
