FEDERAL BANQUET.
“ VICTORIA DAY.” By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, March 14. Earl Spencer presided at the National Federal Club Commonwealth banquet. The attendance included Lord Tweedmouth, Professor Bryce, Lord Carrington, and Sir Charles Weby. Sir H. Champbell Bannerman proposed “Success to the Commonwealth.” He declared that Australia presented a picture of true Liberalism purusing a policy which never shrank from its duty, labor, or sacrifice. MiBarton’s position as Premier of the Commonwealth was a guarantee that Australian affairs would be conducted with prudence and energy. He was confident the ties biuding the colonies to the Motherland would be stronger in future.
The Agents-General of South A ustralia, Queensland, and New Zealand responded. Dr. Cockburn suggested that May 24th be called Victoria Day and observed as a perpetual holiday.
