CONCILIATION BOARD.
A LITTLE WRANGLE
CONCILIATOR WANTED. [EY TELEGHATH— MESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, last night. A warm discussion occurred at the Conciliation Board in the course of the hearing of the carpenters’ dispute. The Chairman (Rev. A. H. Collins) objected to members of the Board arguing the case with parties, and said they should reserve their arguments for the committee. Mr Alison, a member of the Board, strongly objected to the remark, as offensive, and intended to be offensive. The Chairman said they were there to arbitrate, and not to champion one side. Mr Alison said he was doing his best towards conciliation, and accused the Chairman of being in sympathy with one side only. Mr Bagnall, another member, said he considered the members were there to advocate the interests of the side they represented. After-further plain speaking, the matter dropped, the Chairman denying the charge of one-sidedness.
