The Wanganui Chronicle valiantly defends its pretty town against the attacks of Wellington. “ For some inexplicable reason the press of Wellington seems to be smitten with the idea that it is its bounden duty to defame the smaller towns of the province, and WangaDui in particular.” That is the mild form in which the Chronicle editor sets to work, but then he works up to this pitch in regard to a statement about typhoid fever at Wanganui :—“ As a piece o| gorgeous and ornamental, exaggeration the above extract would put even thelpate lamented Munchausen to the blush; and even Ananias would be entitled’toSfegard it as a tricky equivocation not unworthy of himself.” The Wellington journals will probably be careful how they deal with Wanganui in future, '
