FOOTBALL.
(To the Editor Gisborne Times.)
Sir, —I should like to express through your go-ahead paper a few opinions that might lead to the success of football in this district.
1. That the Union make the game more interesting by encouraging juniors. Football will never be a success if juniors are ignored. They should offer caps to the juniors who win the junior tournament.
2. That the district scheme be adhered
3. That' football should be carried on on both Thursday and afternoons. I do not think it advisable to dispense with Saturday playing. If this scheme were carried out the Union would find themselves better off than what they are at present.
4. Call a meeting of all footballers (this is the duty of the secretary of the Union) some time this month to discuss in what manner it would be best to increase the number of teams, or how the district should be divided in case they decide on the district scheme. By doing this an early start will be made with the matches. 5. There are two representative teams to visit Napier this season. Therefore players should be very keen on the game this year. In Napier people are envying Gisborne because of its future career, so the teams that go down should also uphold Gisborne’s forward movement, and make the Napier boys envious of them.—l am, etc., Footballer.
