RETIREMENT OF BOERS.

Tho Boers who recently attacked Lichtenburg numbered fifteen hundred. They occupied a portion of tho town, but retired, during tho night, after meeting a repulse. Private O. J. Beclc, of the New Zealand Artillery, was severely wounded during the fighting.General French’s troops have boon fully rationed. The retirement of tho enemy' before General French is one continuous trek. Foreseeing capture, tho Boers abandoned their women and children and waggons to the care of tho British soldiers, who burned many waggons, and removed the women and children to the protection camps. Boer prisoners liberated on parole report that Goneral Delaroy is irreconcilable to the terms of surrender.
Colonel DeLislo is clearing tho Boors out of tho Loouw river district.
Arrangements aro boing mado for the early return of a Lmitod number of refugees to Johannesburg. Lieutenant F. A. Maxwell, of tlio Indian Staff troops, now Aido-do-Camp to Lord Kitchener, has boon awarded tho Victorian Cross for conspicuous bravery at Koornspruit in March of last year. Sergeant Davidson, of tlio New South "Wales Bushmen, lias died of enteric at Pretoria.

Do Wot, Stoyn, and Fronoman are betwoen Spriugfontoin, and Dowotsdorp.
