AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL. . Per Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, last night. Tho Agricultural and Pastoral statistics for tho colony were published in the Supplementary Gazette to-night. Tho first figures given are complete returns of areas under corn crops at October 15th last. These wore as follows, the figures in brackets denoting an increase or dccrcaso of the areas under the same crops for the preceding year : Wheat, for threshing, 206,465 acres (dccrcaso 68,284 acres); for chaffing, ensilage, and feeding down, 1619 acres (in crease 926 acres). Oats, for threshing, 449,531 acres (increase 41,291); chaffing, etc., 191,507 acres (decrease 1945). Barley, for threshing, 30,831 acres (decrease (7102); for ensilage, etc., 4506 acres, (increase 1730). Potatoes, 28,324 acres, (decrease 8460). •Turnips, 404,333 acres (dccrcaso 11,129). Mangolds, 7341 acres (decrease 710). Rape, 124,818 acres (decrease 1049). Beet, 385 acres (decrease 230). Carrots, 1627 (decrease 128). CROPS AND GRASSES.

The following is a summary of tlie crops and grasses for the colony:— Corn crop, 949,492 acres. Grasses, 32,711,211 acres. Green crops, 671,717 acres. .iPiantation, 90,233 acres.

Total, 34,422,053 acres, an increase of 488,920 acres on the area in crop for the preceding twelve monthly period. Besides the crops particularised abovc.tho following show an increase in area for the year : Vetches, 54 acres increase. Linseed, 86 acres. Hops, 56 acres. Grasses on ploughed land, 101,723 a cres. Surface sown grasses, 163,549 acres. Tussock and native grass, 325,647 acres. Plantations, 452 acres. Private gardens, 251 acres. Market gardens, 270 acres. Orchards, 1299 acres. Vineyards, 77 acres. The following show decreases ; Rye, 1241 acres decrease. Maize, 3421 acres. Peas, 1213 acres. Beans, 165 acres. Hay, 211 acres. Ensilage, 1137 acres. Seed grass, 35,319 acres. STOCK.

Ths total numbers of stock in colony a, April 30th, 1900, and at April 30th, 1899' were as follows : Horses, 1899, 262,390 ; 1900, 206,725. Cattle, 1899, 1,222,139; 1900, 1,256,680. Swine, 1899, 249,741 ; 1900, 250,937. Sheep, 1899,19,348,506; 1900,19,355,195 The following tabic shows the distribution of horses, cattle, and sheep over the different provinces :—- Auckland, 59,450 horses, 298,089 cattle, 903,254 sheep.

Hawke’s Bay, 27,741 horses, 146,006 cattle, 4,503,556 sheep. Taranaki, 17,815 horses, 211,459 cattle, 508,948 sheep. Wellington, 42,403, 264,571, 4,082,415. Marlborough, 0,359, 12,536, 789,218. Nelson, 7038, 28,859, 275,366. Westland, 2145, 15,791, 28,533. Canterbury, 50,015, 93,260, 4,516,955. Otago, 54,759, 186,103,13,746,750. Totals : 266,725, 1,256,690, 19,355,195. The totals for stocks, compared with the totals for the preceding years, ate as follows :

In the following tables, showing the acreage under oats, wheat, and barley sown or intended to be sown this season, the counties of Waiapu and Cook are included in the Hawke’s Bay district, and the counties of Amuri and Cheviot in tho Canterbury district.
