TRADE WITH SOUTH AFRICA.
The following information is supplied to us by Messrs Williams and Kettle : —An arrangement has been entered into between the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co., the Tyscr Line, Limited, and the New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, to establish steam communication between this colony and South Africa. It is proposed to despatch a steamer about every six weeks for London, calling at Fremantle and South African ports as may be required. Rates of freight on frozen meat, dairy produce, and other cargo will be the same as those now ruling for London, with tho exception of the following, for which special rates have been fixed ; wheat 45s per ton of 22401b5, oats 55s per ton of 22401b5, flour 45 per ton of 20001bs, bran and pollard 65s per ton of 20001bs, oatmeal 50s per ton of 20001bs, case goods 50s per 40 cubic feet, compressed hay, 100 s per ton of 22401b5, with usual primage, 5 per cent, primage to be returned to the shipper. Freight on frozen meat and dairy produce to be paid in New Zealand ; freight on other cargo to be paid at port of shipment or at port of discharge at shipper’s option. The service will be inaugurated by the despatch of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Otarama, 3935 tons register, on or about the 9th of March,
