Cycling Notes.

Messrs Randrup, Bennett and Bradley, cyclists, arrived from the South on Saturday morning, to take part in the Cycling Club’s Meeting, to be held on Thursday next, 7th inst. The committee are working hard in connection with the gathering, which promises to be of a.most attractive nature,

France recognises the right of the husband to be boss, and before madamo can join the touring club, she must first obtain a signed declaration from her spouse granting her the privilige. The A.N.A. Meeting was duly earned out in tho Melbourne exhibition track on the 9th and 11th Feb"., and unlike most ■postponed meetings was an unqualified success. The meeting was responsible for another exceptional exhibition of marvellous riding on the part of the Yankee crack, “ Plngger Bill ” Martin, he winning both the A.N.A. "Wheel Race from scratch and the A.N.A. Gold Stakes scratch race, these two races being worth one hundred and seventy-five pounds. The other principal events wore captured by F. S. Beauchamp, and Ivor Lawson, the former winning the Australian Cup, and the- latter the five Miles scratch race. The total attendance during the two afternoons and two evenings aggregated fifty-eight thousand, which should leave a" handsome profit on the meeting. A meritorious motor cycle ride was accomplished on the "Western District Roads (Vic.) just lately, by Messrs H. B. James, of the Dunlop Tyre Co., and S. H. Day, the well-known printer of Melbourne. The motor used was a De Dion motor quadricycle carrying two people, with two and three-quarter horse power and shod with Dunlops. The original intention upon starting from Geelong was to map out a twenty-four hours’ road route for an all day motor record wliich the Dunlop Co. intend attempting early next month, and at the same time see what the quad, could cover in a day, but owing to an axle firing just before reaching Camperdown, which necessitated a long delay for repahrs, a tour round through Terang, Hamilton, Skipton, Ballarat, and baok to Geelong was decided on, and despite numerous slight delays, good time was made, the whole distance —some three hundred and fifty-four miles, being covered in twentysix hours riding time. Only six gallons of petrol were consumed on the trip, costing fifteen shillings, which works’ .out at less than a farthing per mile each person.
