PERSONAL.
Mr J. N. Williams left for Napier last evening. Mr W. Muir, of Wellington, is at present visiting Gisborne. Mr J. M. Samson left for Wellington last evening, being given a good send-off by his many Gisborne friends. Mr J. Murrell, the Huddart-Parkcr’s general manager in-New Zealand, paid a visit to Gisborae on Saturday. Miss Siddells, of Morere school, was successful in securing a partial D at the recent pupil teachers’ examination. . Mr Charles Rosie left for the South last night, and his many friends will shortly have the pleasure of offering him congratulations.
Mr J. M. Ritchie, manager of the National Mortgage Company, Dunedin, and a director of the Union Company, returned South by the Moura last evening.
Mr W. A. Barton, S.M., is to make his Coast circuit this week. He will hold a sitting of the Court at Tolago on Thursday, and thence proceeds up the Coast to Awanui.
Surgeon-Major Bums, of Dunedin, has been selected principal medical officer for New Zealand in South Africa. Dr Dawson is likely to go with the Seventh Contingent as modical adviser.
I {Mr J. Sealev, who, we regret to say, has been suffer.ng from a serious affection of the eyes, left last evening for the South to consult a specialist. It is hoped that the young man will soon be able to return with restored sight. At Waerenga-o-kuri on Thursday evening last a complimentary dinner was tendered to Messrs Paul and Phillip Speedy, prior to their departure from the district, the Rimuhau station having been purchased by Mr Carmichael. There was a large attendance, and a pleasant evening was spent. Messrs Speedy during their residence in the district have made themselves very popular, and general regret is expressed by settlers in the district in which they lived at their departure.
