[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. Tho Dunedin Races commonccd to-day. Tho weather was lino, and the attendance capital. The racing was excellent, and tlic finishes exciting. The jockeys all woro a badge as mourning for the Quocn. Paladin broke his log in the Cup, and had to be destroyed. Tho state of the courscjwas in no way responsible for this. The amount put through tlic totalisator was <£6BBl, as against .£7948 for the corresponding day last year. Tlic results aro:— Hurdles : Ilex (G. Robertson) 1, Dundee 2. Won by a Jong neck. Time 3,69, div. ;£! 6s.
