Colonel DeLisle reached Yosbuyg on the 22nd. Since leaving tho railway at Picquetberg road, within fifty miles of Capetown, his force travelled five hundred miles through country despoiled of provisions, forage, and animals by the invading Boers. The column patrolled a front of sixty miles on Sunday. Brigadier-General Sir Charles Parsons engaged a section of Cape invaders under Commandant Schelpers near Widlowmore, eighty miles southeast of Beauford West. He shelled the Boers out of a strong entrenchod position with heavy loss. Hertzog, with tho western column of raiders, and fifteen hundred remounts, intended for De Wot, is moving east towards Kalkbult, Prieska district. A Blue Book has boon published showing that Botha in Juno asked for an armistice to consider Lord Roberts’ terms of surrender. Lord Roberts promised not to move east or north if Botha did not move south or west. Botha refused to givo a promise. During Colonel Do Lisle’s march on February 19th tho anniversary of the landing of the Now South Wales second contingent was celebrated by a camp concert. Addressing tho mon, Colonlel De Lisle declared that he was proud of the Australians, whom ho regardod ’as personal friends. New South Wales had every reason to bo proud of her gallant troops, who had done more hard work and done it better than.any other body of mon engaged in the campaign. English visitors montion the sending of forty thousand lemons to the British troops in South Africa.
