At the Supreme Court, in addition to finding no bill against Alexander Thomp-, son, charged with the murder of Gibbs, his shipmate oil the Otarama, the grand jury also found no bill against Jas. Lediiigham, who had been committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the drowning of one of the dredge hands. Alfred Smith, alias : Morton, charged with house-breaking, was found not guilty. THE YORKS’ VISIT. The Tjnion Company has abandoned the idea of running a special excursion to the South Sea Islands during the winter months, as in view of the advent of the Yorks it is expected that the Waikare will be required for the inter-colonial trade. AN APPOINTMENT. Mr John Rogers, City Engineer of Brisbane, was to-night elected for the position of Engineer for Dunedin. TRAMWAY LOAN. . Tenders were opened to-night for tlie tramway loan of £50,000, bearing 4 per cent., invited by the City Council.to complete the - purchase of the,tramways. The loan was over subscribed by £39,300.. The A.M.P. Society-tendered for the whole loan at par, hut only received 11,700, the rest. going to . the tenderers above par. The average will be about £IOO 15s.

YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION. .

At a meeting to-night it was decided to form a Young Men’s Christian Association, and a constitution was adopted. The old Association of the' same kind died many years ago. A - - ■ ■
