MAKARAKA RACECOURSE.

The first race of tho day is the Makauri Handicap, and as only a moderate lot are engaged I shall place them as follows : Contrabine 1 Thistle 2 Red Rose 3 For the Comity Stakes Paria appears like a winner taking his previous performances into consideration, but Craftsman, whom the “ Knowing Push ” fancy, is coming on very fast and must not be despised, while Blue Moon, a great finisher bred on Arab lines, will certainly run well. Therefore—

After tho Scurry, which is post entry, comes the principal race of the meeting —

Tukanga Stakes,

This is a most difficult race to make selections from, and it will be a poser for the public, who generally hit on the right horse, but after going carefully over the handicaps I will place them thus : Warwick 1

Lady Raven 2 Bonnie doEau 3 Heiress may find the distance a bit too far. Donovan only arrived on Wednesday. Eh Hakkore is generally a bit sore, and Wilson is not what he used to be. Telephone Handicap. This should be a very large field, but as it is only a five furlong spin, Honors, although heavily weighted, is very speedy, and should to my mind just about win, with Ahititi and Mongonui in close attendance — Honors 1 Ahititi 2 Mongonui ... ... 3 The hurdle chasers are rather a weak lot, although if Pistol Grip was not such a roarer he would be a good sort. Hairtrigger and Cronje have not performed too well so far. So the dead cert in this event will be the great grandson of the illustrious Musket. - Hack Rage.
