Borough Council.

An ordinary meeting of the Council was held last night. Present : The Mayor (Mr Townley) and Crs Hepburn, Lewis, Johnston, Jones, Kennedy, Harding, and Joyce. • ' An offer was received from Mr S. Niccoll, who had. designed the Nelson, abattoirs, to supply tracings and plans to the Council-for £lO 10s, or complete plans and specifications for £3l TOs. . .j , .' ! The Mayor said the Act came into force on the lst rof .Apiil compelling,-them ; to have ; abattoirs, so it.would be well to keep the letter by.< He .spoke warmly ,in favor of the Nelson abattoirs.-,.. ... 1 . •The matter was deferred. ; ; j The Overseer reported iqn^jthev,works, in progress, and the report was adopted. . , : The Sanitary, Inspector .reported, that an extra; horse , was necessary tor the, night-cart. . The - case of . scarlet fever was now ’convalescent, but; restrictions,, yrer'e being maintained. until. the: end’ of < the, . week.,- There 1 were four, fresh cases, of typhoidfever since last .meeting. ;-In regard to the horse, - the Inspector , was in-' structed to . arrange with.
