MASTER AND FIREMEN,
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night.
Four firemen belonging to the steamer Waikato were charged at the Magistrate’s Court to-day with having combined to disobey the lawful commands of the master, and to impede the progress of the voyage shortly after. The vessol left Wellington for London on Saturday. Dr. McArthur, S.M., dismissed the information, saying there was no doubt in his mind that the defendants wore given to understand that other competent firemen would be engaged for the voyage. A LAX SYSTEM. In the Supreme Court, Lionel Ferdinand Tigener, who was employed as accountant at Hunterville by the Public Works Department, was found not guilty of the theft of 11101 6s 5d of Government money. Mr Justice Edwards, in his summing up, said there had been a lax system of paying co-operative workers. RETURNING HOME. The Premier has been advised that Captain Bartlett, Farrier Cromie (No. 21), and Bugler Fox (No. Ill), of the First Contingent, and Surgeon Captain Godfrey, of the Third Contingent, are returning by the Mararoa from Sydney, for Wellington. -
