The Railway Line.
LOCOMOTIVE ON THE WAY. Steady progress is being made with the railway line. The permanent way has been laid down as far as Mr J. Tombleson’s property, nearly half-way from Gisborne to Ormond. The Toroa is now on the way from Greymouth to Gisborne, having on hoard a locomotive and ten trucks, also about 2000 sleepers and 20 tons of coal.
The work on the line has been considerably delayed by the want of timber, but the required quantity is now at hand. By the end of the week the stream near Mr Tombleson’s property will he bridged. The pile driving at the Waikanae crossing has been completed, the decking being yet to do. Yesterday a start was made at pile-driving near King’s road, Makauri.
