An Exciting Experience.
MR GAMBLE NEARLY SEIZED BY A SHARK.
(Special to Times). Auckland, last night.
The steamer Moura, on her trip from Auckland to Gisborne yesterday, stopped eight miles off the coast to pick up Messrs Gamble and commercial travellers, who came out in an open boat, rowed by Messrs W. and G. Walker and two Natives. The occupants of the boat had a most exciting experience an hour before the steamer reached them.
Mr Gamble had been in for a bath, and was sitting on the side of the boat, when he was attacked by a large shark, eight feet long.
The Natives in the boat struck at the shark with oars, and succeeded in driving it off, and an attempt was afterwards made to harpoon it. The'incident greatly scared the occupants, and it was fortunate for Mr Gamble that he was not seized when in the water.
