To-Morrow’s Sports.

[By Ped.]

Amongst the arrivals for the forthcoming Sports are several men new to the Bay, pedestrians with a string of good New Zealand performances that would place them in the front rank of the best New Zealanders. Among these arc McLachlan, Somors, and Boatson. The two former are reckoned to be about “ ten seconds ” for the hundred yards, and a shade over 50 seconds for a quarter of a mile; although in conversation Somers considers that he is five yards over ten seconds ; and, taking a line from our exchampion M’Donald, who is a little inferior to cither of these mon, it is very near the mark. McManus, a ten seconds runner, the Sydney champion, has given M’Donald six yards in 120, and beaten him. However, tho running of these two mon, besides Curtin, of Hawke's Bay, should be well worth 'witnessing on Thursday. In the 440, there are two more fresh runners, M. 'Washer and L. Ward, two first-class men. In the halfmile and mile, we have Beatson, who is in the front rank of distance runners in New Zealand, and has put up some good performances at these distances. Ho may be remembered as having won these two events from scratch at the last Caledonian meeting. Ward and Washer are also competing in tho mile ; and, as the former has beaten Beatson with five - yards in the half-mile, and with five yards in the mile was only beaten by a few yards, and Washer has beaten Beatson with 35 yards, our local men will have to be at their best on the handicapping to win any of these events. If it came to selecting, my fancy would be: —

100 yards: Somers, 1; McLachlan, 2. 220 yards : Curtin, 1; Somers, 2. Quarter-mile : McLachlan, 1; Harding,

Hurdles: Atkins, 1. Mile Race: Beatson, 1; Morris, 2. Half-mile: Ward, 1; Harding, 2.
