Under a clause in the Appropriation Act of last session, the Government has deductod £254 3s 8d from subsidies due to the Wairarapa South County Council for the expenses of the returning officer at the licensing elections 1897 and 1900, which the Supreme Court had decided the Council was not liable for. H.M.S. Archer arrived from Sydnoy yesterday. The Chief Justice is still indisposed. His Court has been adjourned for a week. The University Senate meet at Auckland on Wednesday next. The Sierra, which left Auckland on January 22nd, three days late, arrived at San Francisco on the 9th, five days later than time-table date.

Auckland, last night. Trooper O’Sullivan, now at the hospital, is recovering from his recent accident.
