Sad Affair at Te Araroa.

A YOUNG WOMAN TAKES CARBOLIC ACID. Our Awanui correspondent wired us last evening of a sad death which had taken place at Te Araroa. From the information received at Awanui by letter, it is stated that a young woman named Miss Biddell, a sister of Mr Biddell, storekeeper at Te Araroa, had taken carbolic acid and died from the effects. No particulars were given, and it was understood that Constable Smith was proceeding to the locality in question to make investigations. A'later message states that Mr Biddell had communicated with the police at Awanui by letter, in which he stated that ho regretted to inform the constable that his sister had died from the effects of carbolic acid which she had taken. Ho further asked that the constable should come on to Te Araroa and bring a doctor. As there was no medical officer available, Constable Smith could not comply with the latter request, but he has himself left for Te Araroa. The occurrence has cast a gloom over that part of the district.
