GISBORNE HARBOR BOARD ELECTION. T abies and Gentlemen - , I respectfully request your votes and support at the present Biennial Election as one of the representatives of the Borough of Gisborne. Certain considerations impel me to come forward at this juncture of harbor affairs, and among other reasons please let me place before the Electors the principal motives why I seek their support in my candidature. The present wharf tariff should be revised and modelled in the direction of making the port the central entrepot of the whole East ■ Coast' district. Under present conditions this is not the case, which merchants and tradesmen generally will readily admit. . I mean the abolition of all wharf charges on products coming to Gisborne from coastal ports. This will be a concession of revenue, but, in my opinion, will result as a distinct gain to the whole of the community. Better accommmodation should be provided for the convenience of passengers, also shipping facilities now lacking. Likewise, I would strenuously advocate the erection of shelter sheds and other suitable appurtenances for the travelling public. Inasmuch as the present Board have been committed to a certain expenditure, which the law allows, I will, if elected, take a keen interest in the economical expenditure of funds, and guard the interests of the public. In all matters concerning the welfare of this port and district, I will always endeavor, if elected, to discharge the duties of the office conscientiously, and I hope to the satisfaction of all concerned. I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, F. HARRIS. ~j~j' ENNESSY’S for Depesdabi.es.
