Returning New Zealanders.

DEPARTURE OF MR CARROLL,

FELICITOUS SPEECHES.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Jan. 26,

Among the passengers by the Wcstralia, which sailed to-day, were the Hon. J. Carroll, and Messrs Graham, Fraser, and Field, the last contingent of the New Zealand.parliamentary visitors. Before the vessel left Sir W. Lyne and Mr Sullivan, representing the Commonwealth and State Governments, took farewell of the visitors.

Sir William Lyne, proposing Mr Carroll’s health, thanked New Zealand for the honor conferred by sending representatives to'the Federal celebrations, and expressed a hope that the day was not far distant when New Zealand will go hand-in-hand with Federation.

Mr Carroll thanked Sir William Lyne for the unbounded hospitality shown and said the kindness of the past few weeks had done more to foster a friendly spirit between the Commonwealth and New Zealand than anything else could have accomplished. Mr Fraser also returned thanks. Sir W. Lyne, in proposing the health of the Huddart-Parker Company, expressed a hope that the time was not far distant when the Company would do its part in bringing the two countries closer together by fast steamers. Much had been done in that respect in the past, and they could confidently look to the future to effect further improvements, Mr Kendall, on behalf of the Company, suitably responded.
