Road Board Tenders.
To mu Editor of the Times.
Siii— Referring to the Whataupoko Hoad Board meeting and Mr Pcrycr's tender mentioned in your morning issue, I may state that the Board called for tenders for the work referred to, and the tenders were to be in at noon on Saturday, 19th inst. At the time appointed only one member (Mr Joyce) was in attendance. After some considerable time the other members were sent for, cut on arrival it was discovered that the Chairman was absent up country, and had not left the estimates in the office, so that the tenders were not opened and the meeting was adjourned till the return of the Chairman, when due notice was to be given to the members and- the tenders opened. On the arrival of the Chairman he called some of the mcnibers together without the knowledge of others, opened the tenders, and did not accept the lowest tender, stating it could not be done for my price. Is the Chairman to rule the whole Board, and the ratepayers to be at a loss of over £ls bv his action ?—I am, etc., W. Pekyek.
p.S.—Since signing the above letter I have offered Mr Phelps, the successful tenderer, £lO if he transferred his contract to me, but he declined to do so.
[As the meeting of the Board takes place to-day no doubt the Chairman will take the opportunity to explain matters. IRIBS.J
