London, Jan. 23. The Princo of Wales, and tho Dukes of York, Connaught, and Princess Christian reached London at one o’clock. The crowd quietly saluted tho King, who, gravely bowing, drove to Marlborough House.
Later on ho met tho Privy Council at St. James’s Palace. The Lord Mayor and Aldermen were in attendance. Tho Duke of Devonshire communicated to the Council the death of the Queen and tho succession of tho son.
MESSAGE OF CONGRATULATION,

The Commonwealth Gazctto to-night announces that tho King was proclaimed at St. James’ Palace, at two o’clock to-day. Received Jan. 25, 12.55 a.m. Melbourne, Jan. 24. The proclamation of the new King has been saluted hore with twenty-ono guns. The Lieutenant-Governor has cabled his congratulations to the new Monarch, HOW THE ADMIRALTY RECEIVED THE NEWS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, last night. The Admiral has received a cable that tho King was proclaimed to-day. All flags were hoisted until sunset. The fleet and permanent artillery fired royal salutes. The flags will be half-masted to-morrow, and remain so until the evening of interment.
