THE QUEEN’S HEALTH.

The following messages in regard to the health of the Queen were received during yesterday:—

London, Jan. 22. The latest bulletin is that Her Majesty has rallied after sleep. The symptoms occasioning most anxiety point to a local obstruction of the brain circulation. The Marquis of Salisbury and Mr Eitchie have been summoned to Osborne. Dr Thomas Barlow, the Queen’s physician, has arrived. Scores of pressmen are at the gates at Osborne. There are immense crowds at the Mansion House awaiting the latest bulletins. Business is at a standstill. It is now admitted that the Queen’s health has caused anxiety to her entourage for the last three months. She slowly succumbed to the strain of the past year, the renewed tension of the war, the loss of relations, and the illness of the Empress Frederick, who is lying ill at Friedreckshof. Some weeks ago the Queen began to retire to rest earlier than usual. She was often sleepless, and her 'appetite failed, but improved slightly. At Osborne at about two o’clock this morning the Queen became comatose. Fearing the worst, her family surrounded the bedside. However, the patient rallied, and at five o’clock partook of food. The Kaiser, Prince of Wales, Duke of York, and Duke of Connaught left Victoria station for Osborne at eight o’clock. The Queen is being nursed by the Queen’s dressers. No trained nurses are in attendance. The Duke of Albany’s departure from Gotha has been countermanded. The Duke of York was shooting when he was summoned to Osborne. On arriving in London he postponed his departure till his father’s return from Osborne to meet the Kaiser. Sydney, last night. The National Anthem was sung by the Opera Company last night. There is a profound expression of sorrow throughout all the States of the Commonwealth. The Lieuten-ant-Governor of Victoria has cabled on behalf of the Government and people, hoping, by God’s help, that Her Majesty’s health, will be fully restored. Mr Seddon informed an interviewer that he was depressed and saddened by the grave news. He prayed the Divine Providence whom we alone can trust that our beloved Monarch be spared a few years longer. All preparations connected with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York have been suspended, and the festivities in connection with the Imperial troops cancelled. Wellington, last night. Archbishop Redwood has directed that a special prayer for the recovery of Her Majesty be said in*all Catholic Churches in the diocese.
