Land Board.
The Board met at 10 a.m. yesterday. Present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands (in the chair), Messrs Geo. Matthewson and Thos. Hyde. The following correspondence was considered :
From G. G. Boyd, Port Awanui, requesting that the lands in the Waiapu County be reclassified. The Board did not see their way to re-classify the land referred to, the Comssioner remarking that the classification had already been carefully done by a competent surveyor. From A. Grandfield requesting to have section 3, Motu Village, put in the market. Application declined, the Board not considering.it advisable to part with the section at present. From Jas. Woodford, Port Awanui, requesting that the Crown Lands in the Waiapu District be thrown open for selection. The Board decided to recommend the Government to put in the market all the blocks of land in the Waiapu district that had reasonable road access.
From G. F. Powell, applying for Paraeroa No. 1 Block, containing 311 acres. It was decided to offer this block for selection.
The following applications for expenditure of accrued thirds were approved: Wairoa County Council, £282 Is 7d; Cook County Council, £207 3s 7d; Te Arai Road Board, £3O 16s 7d; Patutahi Road Board, £3 115.4 d. Annie G. Hale applied to complete purchase of section 4, Block XIX, Buckley Suburbs. Application declined on account of there being no purchasing clause. The following transfers of leases were dealt with: From T. L. MacKenzie toR. Grace and D. O’Brien, section 0, Block XV, Motu; approved, subject to necessary improvements being effected. Jas. Patterson to R. Gillespie section 151, Patutahi Suburbs; approved. Wm. Sutherland applied to have his perpetual lease over section 43, Block XVI, Hangaroa, exchanged for a lease in perpetuity; approved. The receiver of Land Revenue reported that the arrears of rent on section 14, Block 1, Waimarie, have been paid. Resolved that the forfeiture of the above sections be rescinded.
Mr Jas. Kennedy applied to surrender section 26, Pouparae Settlement. The applicant appeared in person with his agent, Mr T. A. Coleman. The Commissioner explained that the section had already been forfeited, and would be offered for selection burdened with improve mets. Mr F. A. Denton applied to have the forfeiture of section 2, Block XVIII., Nuhaka North, rescinded. Application refused ; the Board pointed out that the section had been forfeited, and the notice had appeared in the Gazette. The receiver of Land Revenue was authorised to make payments on account of valuations of improvements lodged in respect to section 12 and 2, Block 8, Waimarie. Mr Mclntosh, on behalf of settlers on the Willows Estate, applied to the Board for some assistance in draining the allotments. The Commissioner explained that there was a sum available, and the district surveyor would be instructed to have the work put in hand at once. The sum voted was £IOO, of which £6O can be spent immediately.
