Motu Notes.
Our Motu correspondent writes:—A considerable amount of bush and scrub has been burnt during tho past few weeks by settlers who arc clearing their land. Close on 2000 acres of bush has been felled on Neill’s road this season. The Government have made a start with the dray road from the waterfalls, and are working towards the end whore it has recently been completed. _ Grass seed - cutting will soon bo in full swing. The seed looks very good so far, and promises a good yield. Several of the Gisborne firms arc pushing their 1 ads.’ a good way inland. Mr Barwiek has a signboard put up on his frontage, tollin'' those whom it might concern to “ take it to Ormond’s!” whilst far past tho Motu you aro reminded that you should “ smoko Old Judge cigarettes,” and that “ Hennessey’s is the place of dependables !” . Wo aro all looking forward to seeing the railway coming into the district, but at the present rate of progress it will bo two or three years bofore it comes about.
