PRELIMINARY SITTING AT WELLINGTON.

Wellington, last night.The first sitting of the Federal .Commission was held at the Parliamentary Buildings today. After a general discussion, it was decided to commence proceedings with a sitting at Invercargill on the fifth prox , and to gradually work up through the colony until arrival at Auckland, and from thence to Australia. The press will not be admitted to tho sittings of the Commission, but formal reoords of tho proceedings from day to day are to bo furnished. In tho interval between now and the next meeting a large quantity of necessary statistics will be obtained from Govern? ment and placed at the disposal of members.
