Tlie Australasian bowling team to visit England is in course of formation. They leave in April. Mr Copeland, the Agent-General, has signed the Cape cable agreement in London.
The New South Wales gold yield last year shows a falling off of £557,000 compared with the previous year. Applications for enrolment for the next contingent for South Africa are coming in freely in the various States. Sir W. Lyne retires shortly from the State Premiership. He will be succeeded by Mr See, Mr Dugald Thompson probably taking the Treasury. Melbourne, Jan. 15. Sir John Forrest approves of the idea that the States’ post offices should be controlled by each State under instructions from the Federal Post Office, rather than by direct administration. He says five years must elapse before there can be a postage stamp current throughout Australasia. Why this should be he fails to make clear. The Crown Law officers have advised that the Premier’s appointment as Federal Minister signifies his acceptance of a position of profit under the Crown. Sir G. Turner resigns his seat in the State Assembly to-day.
