The Lyttelton Times of Monday last says: —For some days the police have been in search of a young girl who has been missing from her home, and they eventually traced her to a hut occupied by a fisherman in Sydenham. They interrogated the owner of the hut, and he denied that the girl was under his roof. However, at midnight on Saturday Detectives Livingstone and Fahey managed to gain an entrance to the place, and there found the girl in a terrible plight. They at once arrested the man on a charge of indecent assault, and had the girl examined.by a doctor, who found her to have sustained serious injuries. The man is over sixty years of age, while the girl is under sixteen.
