THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE. A HOPEFUL OUTLOOK. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Jan. 12. Weddell's Annual Review on the meat trade says that imports of mutton are 57,397 carcases below that of 1899, and that the consumption appears temporarily to have overtaken the production. The quality of both New Zealand and Australian meat is generally excellent, and has enabled Australians and New Zealanders to hold their own against the River Plate. The circular advises that the bulk of the lamb should arrive in April, May. and June. The imports of River Plate beef exceeded both the Australian and New Zealand, and as the River Plate has greatly improved in quality it becomes a formidable rival. The circular also anticipates that fairly high values will be maintained in all moat for some time.
