summer, while in New Zealand we allude to the capacity in winter. In both cases, of course, the worst time of the year for stock is taken; but if one tells an Australian the carrying capacity in winter he will "’ant to know that of summer, and will probably base his judgment of value on that. Mr Tiffen, acting on medical advice, returned to New Zealand on account of his health, this colony’s climate being recommended. He was very pleased to see the old faces again. On the way through from Wellington he noticed that there is an extraordinary growth of grass, but from all over the colony there was complaint as to the deficiency of the wool clip. He noticed that there had been many improvements in Gisborne during the time he had been away, and he considers that the efforts of the Beautifying Association will be of much benefit to the town. In conclusion Mr Tiffen expressed his heartiest wishes for the success of the Times ; he considers that this journal has an ample field, and states that while in Australia he often wondered why an effort was not made to bring out a morning journal in Gisborne.
