POLICE COURT.
YESTERDAY. (Before Mr W. A. Barton, S.M.) ALLEGED ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. A young man named Albert Higgs, described as a laborer, was charged with having attempted to commit suicide. Defendant was suffering from the effects of drink, and Sergeant Siddells asked for a remand to Friday, which was granted. A SERIOUS CHARGE. ■ A middle - aged man named Robert Mawherry was charged with having committed an indecent act in Gladstone road on the previous evening. He pleaded guilty, and was defended by Mr R. N. .Jones, who addressed the Court on his behalf. Counsel asked the Bench to treat the accused, as a first offender, and allow him to come up for sentence when called upon. His Worship reserved judgment until Friday morning. ALLEGED OESCEXE LANGUAGE. Cecil William Rhodes, who described himself as a saddler, was charged with using obscene language in Gladstone road on Monday evening. Accused asked to have the case adjourned until the 4th inst., and also applied for bail. The Magistrate acceded to the request, and fixed the amount at £25, which, however, was not forthcoming.
