The Tyser liner Hawke’s Bay (Captain Child.-;) arrived- from Wellington oil Sunday evening with fAiO tons of -rails for the Gisborne Karaka railway works, and will bo busily engaged discharging the same during the present week. Messrs Richardson and Co.’s steamer Kahn arrived from Napier on Saturday afternoon last via Mabia for the purpose of lightering the iron rails out of the Hawke’s Bay. She. brought the first load to the wharf on Monday. The steamer Bunny arrives from Napier this morning to assist in the same work.

Tho ship Taranaki is about half-loaded for London, and Captain Evans expects to get away about tho middlo of January. Tho steamers Kaliu and fanny, owned by Messrs Richardson and Co., of Napier, havo taken out lightering licenses at this port for twelve months.

Tho barque Grace I far war is expected to arrive daily, having loft Otago Heads about a fortnight ago. Travellers e.r tho coast report having seen a large vessel under sail off the Bast Cape on tho 2litli and 27th, and it is presumed that this is tho Grace Harwar, which was probably driven past this port during tho recent heavy south east gale. The schooner Aotea left on Sunday evening for coastal ports and Auckland.

The schooner Awanui is at Tairua and the Gisborne at Mercury Bay, both loading for Gisborne.
