NO CONTEST FOR MAYORALTY

TNVERCARGILL, Nov. B.—There will be no contest now for the Mayoralty of Invercargill. The present Mayor, Mr. W. Aitchison, announced to the Invercargill City Council last night that he had withdrawn his nomination. The only other nominee, Mr. B. W. Hewat, has been declared duly elected as Mayor. Mr. Aitchison told the council that circumstances had arisen which prevented him contesting the seat and that he was going back to his original intention to retire from local body politics.—P.A.
