Wall Street Prices Highest Since 1931

(10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 22. The stock market soared to a 19-year peak today, according to the Associated Press average of 60 stocks. The general price level has not climbed so high since 1931. The market, as measured by the Associated Press average, broke through the 1946 high of 82 dollars 40 cents a share and reached 82 dollars and 80 cents. The peak in 1931 was 88 dollars 50 cents.

The current bull market started in June, 1949, after plunging to a four and a half year low. Steady upward progress was made until the Korean war. when prices fell in sensational fashion. The recovery began in the middle of July.
