USED ROOFING IRON FREED FROM CONTROL

WELLINGTON, Sept. 22.

Second-hand galvanised iron has been freed from control. The Minister of Works, Mr. W S. Goosman, said yesterday that he regretted it was not possible to relax the control on the use of new iron owing to the limited quantities being received from overseas. The supply position might deteriorate further as a result of the international situation, and the present restrictions, on the use of new iron would therefore have to remain in the meantime. Mr. Goosman added. The relaxation of control applied only to genuinely secondhand iron, and owners were permitted to use it for any building purpose.
