Wages Unchanged In New Award For Hospital Domestics
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. The terms of the New Zealand hospital domestic workers’ award relating to wages remain unchanged in a new award issued by the Court of Arbitration. Increases have been made in some of the special payments, but the claim for additional payment for Saturday work has not been granted. The workers’ representative,’ Mr. F. C. Allbery, in a dissenting opinion, said that most awards provided for additional payment for Saturday work and lie could not see why workers under the hospital award should not receive siimlar treatment.
The wage rates are, however, subject to a clause giving effect to the court’s interim general order of 10s 6d, varied in the case of hospital workers to cover various categories, including workers who eat and sleep on the premises and those who do not. The award came into force on Tuesday and will continue until September 19, 1952.
